Vlado Karamazov

ANDREWS/FASHIO STUDIO chose the actor Vladimir Karamazov as the advertising face of their Spring – Summer collection. He has remarkable appearances in the theatre, Cinema and the TV. Right after graduating from NATFIZ in 2001 he has been offered a permanent job in the team of the National theatre “Ivan Vazov”. At its stage he has “been” Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet”, Valentino in “As you wish or the Twelfth night”, Florizel in “Winter fairy tale” and Ross in “Macbeth” from Shakespeare. Currently he acts in “The perfect man”, “Othello”, “King Lir”, “Never make jokes with love”, “Bacchus’s fest”, “A country with two masters” and “Partisans”. Ivan Senebirski` s part in “Albena” by Yordan Yovkov brings him a nomination at “Askeer 2003” for a rising star. He has acted also on the scene of the Satire’s theatre and Theatre 199, where he is the star in the spectacle “The fish man and his soul” – produced by Marius Kurkinski, based on a story by Oscar Wilde. Now we are about to see him in the new Bulgarian movie “You are at it”. He adores traveling, prefers unpopular destinations and up to this moment he has been in almost 40 countries in Asia, Europe and the US. He has also experience as a TV presenter gathered mainly from the first issues of the TV show for travelers “With no bags on”, broadcasted on Nova TV. After a casting he has been chosen for presenter of the second season of SURVIVOR, called “Expedition Robinson” and also for the coming issue of the reality show “The Empire of Mays”. No doubt Vladimir Karamazov is one of the contemporary sex-symbols in our country.
Hi, Vladi! I am happy to meet you here, behind the scenes, at a photo session for fashion house Andrews/fashion studio. How do you feel? Are you tense?
I am not tense, on the contrary – I am very pleased and happy, the costumes have been designed specially for me and they are really nice. I wish the company to overtake not only the Bulgarian markets, but other countries around the world too. Plus, the photographer is Pavel Chervenkov – one of the best Bulgarian professionals in this field.
Since it was you who chose the place for the session and the photographer and I see that you almost wear no make-up – what was the main purpose of the whole photo session?
We aim at natural and simple look in all the photos, moreover the apparel is official enough so that we do not need to add more pompous atmosphere to the collection. We wanted to have some contra argument of these elegant costumes and all the cameras, the lights – all these elements combined together add a lot for the exquisite picture.
The man from ads and billboards all over the world wears lip shine and light mascara, epilates his skin. Are you one of those men?
I like paying attention to my outfit, but I do not overdo it, I also do not go to cosmeticians. Everybody lives t he way he likes and I don’t see something wrong in this. However, it is true that today men tend to take care of their look a lot, sometimes even a lot more than women. I don’t usually have that much time to be able to do that too, but now in these costumes I feel very well.
Since I usually have to make a lot of photo sessions and my general impression is that an increasing number of men tend to epilate themselves, how is it with you? For example if you need to go on stage naked for one of your spectacles in the theatre, how will you guarantee that you are in good shape, except sport, I guess?
Thank God, I am not too firry. I really approve the good hygiene, so if I were more hairy, I would definitely epilate myself.
You became a sex-symbol of Bulgaria after Stefan Danailov – correct me if I am missing somebody. How do you feel in the theatre amongst your colleagues – after all the fame came quite quickly to you?
All of my colleagues are at this level; there is not even one person in the National theatre who is not famous for one thing or another. There are Julian Vergov, Dimitar Rachkov, Dean Donkov, who have done a lot of interesting thinks through their career. I am speaking about the men; they all are very popular in Bulgaria.
You are the youngest, aren’t you?
Yes, I am the youngest, but I feel very well. After all everything is different in theatre.
There is no envy; it is not like in the televisions and other media.
Yes, there isn’t, we are one team, one group of young people who want to make theatre. Everything else stays behind and what matters are only work and the theatre.
The actresses say that in order to get a part in a spectacle, they have to sleep with the producer. How is it with men?
Once upon a time it may have been so, but now it is not so at all. And men are not endangered by any such think at all.
I have friends-actresses who say that thinks have not changed. I personally do not have any such observations. According to me everything depends on whether you have or you don’t have a talent. Especially for men. We are a young troupe – we complete each other mutually and it works out really well.
This is wonderful because we are also very good friends.
I heard an interview with one of our famous actresses who said that when she first had to kiss Kosta Tconev on stage, he hit her that hard, so that she fell down. If you have to kiss a girl that you don’t like, what do you normally do?
I have kisses and before, but this is our profession, what should you do?
What if her mouth smells?
It has never happened to me so far, thank God, because I do not like having to bear such thinks. I hope it never happens to me. Till now I have worked on stage with girls that I like.
Which are you latest stage partners?
In “The Perfect man” I acted with Marta Kondova, t he daughter of the legendary Ivan Kondov. I work very often in the theatre with Anni Papadopulu and my latest partner at stage is Theodora Duhovnikova.
Which is the spectacle that you would like to take part in, the role of your dreams?
Honestly the roles that I have been waiting for, I have already played them. However, there are some roles I need to be a little older in order to be able to cast right and beautifully.
The professionals that work with you can make you look older, this is not a problem?
Not only they need more years behind your back, but also more experience. I think that it comes around the age of 37-38.
Outside the theatre, do you have free time for meetings with your friends, fun thinks, relaxation? How do you relax?
I have very little free time, I relax with traveling abroad. However, currently with SURVIVOR it happened so that I see the world, working, which on one hand is good and on the other – not. However, I always find time to do some trips. Around the New year I had seven days holiday and I went to Dubrovnik, it was wonderful.
Which is your favorite color for this season?
I don`t know why, but I love and have always loved the black. Maybe this is the color in which I feel mightier.
